FILTECH
INC HISTORY AND COMPANY PROFILE
Filtech
Inc. was founded in 1969 as a corporation in the state of
Pennsylvania as a manufacturers representative and
distribution organization.
The
scope of products handled at that time were air and gas
filters to commercial, industrial, governmental, institutional
users, and contractors. Applications included filtration
for heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems; specialized
applications such as "clean rooms" and environmental
containment of particulate and gaseous contaminants for
the microelectronics, nuclear, and biomedical fields.
In view
of the strong technical capabilities of Filtech personnel,
backed up by engineering assistance provided by the principals
represented, technical recommendations continued to be offered
to owners, consulting engineers, design-build contractors,
and original equipment manufacturers on various filtration
applications and environmental systems.
At the
beginning, the office was separate from warehouse operations,
which was in leased space in the LaSalle Building on Pittsburghs
North Side serviced by outside personnel. In 1974, a move
was made into a 6200 sq. ft. building in East Pittsburgh
permitted integration of the operations.
Product
coverage was expanded to include packaged clean rooms, laminar
flow cabinets, down-flow filter modules, and biological
safety cabinets. All of which are built around HEPA (high
efficiency particulate air) filters. HEPA filters are typically
a minimum of 99.97% efficient on 0.3 micron particles. They
provide "super clean", sterile, or very high level
particulate containment. Also marketed were "wet benches"
for semi-conductor applications and other laboratory equipment.
The
late 1970s resulted in widening our capabilities into
service. This included testing and certification of clean
rooms, laminar flow devices, biological safety cabinets,
and filter replacements. Associated functions such as testing
for air change rates, particle counts, and indoor air quality
surveys were also initiated.
Because
of rapid growth in the distribution segment of filtration
products, the decision was made to relocate to larger facilities
(25,000-sq. ft.) in West Homestead (a suburb of Pittsburgh,
Pa.) in 1984. By its 20th anniversary in 1989,
Filtech Inc. had grown to 17 employees.

In the
course of strategic planning, it was decided to concentrate
Filtechs efforts as a "total filter source"
in air, gas, and liquid filtration products. This resulted
in the discontinuance of marketing laboratory equipment
to provide more focus on the core business of filtration
products, and particularly the growth in liquid filtration.
Marketing changes, decentralization, and reorganization
of management responsibilities, was initiated to service
customers better and pursue opportunities in the filtration
markets.
In 1999,
a 2nd building was purchased in West Homestead
adding an additional 8,200 square feet of warehouse space.
Now in its 31st year of business, employment
has reached 34 employees.
